BC Achik-Tash

"Achik-Tash" Base Camp
“Achick-Tash” BC will be active between 1 July and 10 September 2009.
The
“Achick-Tash” BC is placed at 3600m a.s.l. by the mountain stream at a
picturesque glade providing excellent views of the Lenin Peak massif,
its northern slopes. A lot of moraine lakes are scattered around . In
summer, water in the lakes gets warm under the high-altitude sun
radiation allowing pleasant swimming and diving.
The Base Camp is a tent camp consisted of two-bed “hangar” type tents. There also is a traditional Kyrgyz yurt (felt-covered portable house on wooden framework) serving as a dining room. The kitchen provides “three-time” (a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday – joking) a day food. You can also get satellite connection to the rest of the world (within the planet of Earth only, so far) for just USD5 a minute at the BC. Available also is TV, night disco bar and hearty and friendly attitude of the BC staff. At the BC one can buy oneself a drink at the bar, buy or rent some mountaineering gear at the shop, get one's own gas canisters refilled and store one's stuff at the cloak-room.
Advanced
Base Camp (ABC) is located at the orographically left-hand side of the
Lenin Glacier moraine at the altitude of 4500m just under the
north-facing slopes of the Lenin Peak . Mountaineers live in spacious
shared (between two) tents up there. Dining room and kitchen occupy big
tents of “ Angara ” type. Well-trained skilful rescue team (including a
doctor) is also provided for at the ABC to ensure safety and security of
ascents. General leadership and coordination is ensured by responsible
and tactful camp manager.
How to get there .
You
may travel to “Achick-Tash” BC by use of means as follows:
First – (most convenient and recommended). You pay “Ak-say Travel”
for 7 flight hours and take a helicopter hop from Bishkek straight to
BC. It takes 3 hours to fly there one way. You will be offered soft
drinks during the flight. The only disadvantage of the variant is its
cost – it's slightly expensive.
Another variant – ( common one ). You take a flight to Osh and from there travel to BC by road. The variant is relatively cheap and reasonably quick.
Third variant – ( exotic one ). You hire a 4-wheel-drive truck/car for you in Bishkek and drive north to south across Kyrgyzstan over all mountain passes and gorges. This one puts you in immediate touch with beauty and adventure of mountain roads, makes you better acquainted with interesting people including Kyrgyz traffic policemen, frontier servants etc. This one can be recommended to a bigger group having large amount of luggage and enough reserve of time.

International Ecological Action "Clean Mountains"
With the bounds of International Ecological Action “Clean Mountains” in protection of Lenin Peak, from 25th of June to 31st of August International Ecological Base Camp “Achik-Tash” is starting its work.
Lenin Peak (7134 m.) is found to be the most popular among 7000 meters high peaks on the territory of ex-Soviet Union. During 50 years of its assimilation by mountaineers, glacier itself was undergone by intensive anthropogenic influence, due to what a lot of domestic garbage along the whole length of classical route has formed. Tour operators of Kyrgyz Republic joint with Independent Ecological Expertise with the assistance of WIN=WIN, Mammut, Governmental agency of preservation of the environment and forest management under Government of Kyrgyz Republic from 25th of June to 31st of August, year 2009 are providing International Ecological Action of cleaning Lenin Peak from domestic garbage under the name “Clean Mountains”.
Program of action includes:

Cleaning activity from garbage on the territory of Camp2 (5300 m) and territory of Camp1 (4200 m); installation of containers (for rubbish) on the territory of base camps; installation of informative stands.

Ascension to Lenin Peak
To the Base Camp by Plane AN-2
Dear friends, we are
happy to announce that in 2009 you have a great chance to reach our base
camp Achik-Tash at Lenin peak by plane AN-2. Flights start from
July till the end of August.
During 40 minutes
our plane will transfer you from Osh to Achik-Tash (and back). You will
not need to spend 8-hours of drive in the car on a bad road.
The cost of transfer Osh-Achik-Tash one way –
150 euro/person, if and only if there are 8 people in the group.
Round flight (to&back) – 250 euro/person.
It is allowed to take 30 kg of luggage for free, price for overweight
(more then 30 kg) – 3 euro/kg.

Route: Osh - Achik-Tash - Osh
Dates: every Monday and Friday.
Note: if there will be full group (8 persons) - flight will be
exercised in any date.
