Climb One of the World’s Most Iconic 7000 m Peaks

Khan Tengri (7010 m) is one of the most striking and respected mountains in the world: a near-perfect marble pyramid rising above the Central Tien Shan on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Unlike more accessible 7000 m peaks, Khan Tengri demands both high-altitude endurance and solid technical climbing skills. Steep ridges, exposed sections, glacier terrain, and fixed-rope ascents make this a true alpine challenge.

The expedition begins in Bishkek, continues overland to Karkyra, and reaches South Engilchek Base Camp (4000 m) by helicopter — deep in the Tien Shan among vast glaciers and some of the highest peaks in Central Asia.

The Route

Khan Tengri is climbed via the classic Western Ridge route, progressing through a series of high-altitude camps that support acclimatization, rotations, and the final summit push.

The expedition begins at South Engilchek Base Camp (4000 m). From here, climbers move through:

  • Base Camp — 4000 m
  • Camp 1 — 4200 m
  • Camp 2 — 5300 m
  • Camp 3 — 5800 m
  • Summit — 7010 m

Each stage introduces new challenges, from glacier travel and crevassed terrain to steep snow, ice, and exposed ridge sections equipped with fixed ropes. Proper acclimatization, efficient movement between camps, and careful summit timing are essential.

Why Khan Tengri Is Different

Khan Tengri is not just about altitude — it is about precision, movement, and decision-making in technical terrain.

Climbers must be comfortable with:

  • fixed-rope ascents and descents
  • exposed ridge climbing
  • glacier navigation and objective hazards
  • sustained effort at high altitude

Who This Expedition Is For

Khan Tengri is a serious 7000 m expedition best suited for climbers who:

  • have previous climbs above 6000 m
  • are confident using fixed ropes and technical equipment
  • have experience on mixed snow, ice, and rock terrain
  • are physically prepared for sustained high-altitude effort

Why Climbers Trust Ak-Sai on Khan Tengri

For nearly 30 years, Ak-Sai has operated expeditions in the Central Tien Shan, supporting climbers on one of the most demanding 7000 m peaks in the region. From helicopter logistics to route preparation and high-altitude safety, the entire expedition system is managed by one experienced local team.

Established High-Altitude Camps

Operating Base Camp at South / North Engilchek (4000 m) and high camps on the route, Ak-Sai supports climbers throughout the expedition. A stable and well-managed camp system allows climbers to recover properly between rotations and focus on summit strategy.

Technical Route Preparation & Safety

Each season, Ak-Sai Travel teams prepare the route with fixed ropes on key sections, including steep ridges and exposed terrain. Glacier sections and avalanche-prone areas are monitored to support safer movement during rotations and summit attempts.

Helicopter & Remote Logistics Expertise

Access to Khan Tengri requires precise coordination. Ak-Sai operates regular helicopter transfers between Karkyra and Base Camp, ensuring reliable access, cargo transport, and support in a remote glacier environment.

Logistics Managed by One Team

All logistics: permits, transport, camps, safety coordination, and route preparation are managed by one integrated team on the mountain.

Expedition Leaders

Ak-Sai Travel expeditions on Lenin Peak are led by experienced high-altitude guides who have climbed and guided extensively across the Pamirs and Tien Shan. All members of the team hold the Snow Leopard award, earned by climbers who have summited all five 7000-meter peaks of the former USSR. These guides lead acclimatization rotations, manage summit strategy, and make critical safety decisions throughout the expedition.
